After attending the C3 Conference at the University of Maryland a few important points stood out to me.

1. We really need to be teaching internet safety at a very young age in the schools. It needs to be integrated into the curriculum.

2. Instead of not allowing children to use social bookmarking sites, we need to teach them how to handle uncomfortable situations, cyberbullying, and predators online. This is a reality in elementary school…. need I say Club Penguin?

3. Children and adults are putting too much personal information online.

4. We should update our Acceptable Use Policies in schools to legally cover situations dealing with cyberbullying students and teachers.

I had attended a Netsmartz meeting several years ago and was impressed with the free content that was available. Now, two years later there is even more content for teachers to use. The quality of the lessons, activities, and movies are great. They even have a tween category now. I wish these resources would have been available last year, I would have used them with my fifth graders.

The best thing is you can have the videos e-mailed to you so they show full screen during your presentation.
